Kate Middleton Takes Legal Action On A Photographer
Posted by admin in royal family on January 15, 2010
Its not often you hear about the Royal Family, or indeed those associated with the royal family, taking legal action. They generally like to rise above it all, because, lets face it, they are the Royal Family. However, something interesting was announced today which will see Kate Middleton, girlfriend of Prince William, take legal action against a photographer that she claims took pictures of her on Christmas Day, which is only a month after the Queen issued a warning to the media about publishing any paparazzi photographs of the royals.
Miss Middleton is seeking damages and it is thought that this move has had the backing of the Royal Family. Will she win? Only time will tell, and it could go either way. After all, Miss Middleton isn’t officially a member of the Royal family yet, so one might assume that the ‘no photograph’ rule doesn’t really apply to her.
It’s an interesting legal case and one that we can’t wait to find out more about. Will keep you all posted with any further news regarding this.

Cousins In Cyprus Death Car To Be Extradited
Posted by admin in Fatalities on December 1, 2009
It was announced today that two cousins who were passengers in their Uncle’s hire car in Cyprus, which caused a fatality, are to be extradited from the UK.
Luke Atkinson and Michael Binnington were in the back of the car when it hit and killed a teenager back in 2006. Only now has the Court decided that the pair should be flown back to Cyprus where they will each begin a jail term for manslaughter.
The pair, from Essex, lost their High Court bid to avoid extradition to the island. The case has been ongoing for 3 years and the driver of the car, Julian Harrington, is currently already serving a 15-year jail sentence.
What is interesting though is that the cousins were actually acquitted back in February 2007, but that verdict was overturned by the higher court in 2008. Some are astonished to learn that the cousins will now face jail after once being regarded as completely innocent.

Compensation Lawyers Set To Fight Fake Age Discrimination
Posted by admin in Compensation on November 26, 2009
Solicitors and compensation lawyers try and do some good for their clients, but it seems their helpful attitude and hard-working ethics are backfiring on them. The recent news that compensation lawyers are coming together to tackle the increase in claims from people who say they have been victims of age discrimination, when in fact they haven’t, shows the full extent of the problem.
This ‘where there’s a blame there’s a claim’ culture is getting a little bit out of hand, it would seem. Compensation lawyers and solicitors are trying their best to fight the ‘fake’ age discrimination claims that are making their work much harder.
It is alleged that one man has been involved in 150 cases of discrimination and has received multiple settlements of up to £2000 without even taking the claim through the tribunal system.
If you genuinely need a solicitor’s advice to help you get the compensation you deserve, compensation lawyers are more than happy to hear from you. However, it is important that fake cases are stopped now before it’s too late. Lawyers are doing their bit by coming together to make a difference.
Banks Win Legal Battle Over Overdraft Charges
Today marks the end of the legal battle between consumers and greedy banks over unauthorised overdraft charges. The banks won.
Well, we saw this coming even if no-one else did. Can you imagine if the banks had lost this case? The millions they would have had to pay out would have dented the economy even more and potentially put the banks back to where they were 12 months ago; struggling to stay afloat and losing shares.
So what was the legal battle all about? Well, this has been ongoing since July 2007 and it was because banks were charging extortionate fees to those who had overdrafts. Consumer rights groups kicked up a fuss and the battle raged on. Some reported that this was highly likely going to go in favour of the consumers, but in reality, it was just never going to happen. The Supreme Court ruled in favour of the banks and the rest, as they say, is history. However, we should point out that the president of the Supreme Court, Lord Phillips, has said that the Office of Fair Trading’s investigations are still very much ongoing. Will this have any impact? Probably not, but it is a token offering to cushion the blow that the consumers have received today.
Some 1 million people have filed legal claims to get refunds for their bank charges, but it is feared that these cases will now be dismissed.

Gordon Brown Wants To Stop Male Heirs Having Priority In Royal Line Of Succession
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has got a bee in his bonnet about the Royal succession rules that give male heirs a priority. The fact that Prince William’s first child might be a girl indicates that a constitutional crisis could be sparked, and Brown is pushing to prevent this from happening.
It is the 1701 Act of Settlement law which needs to be reformed, according to Brown. The law also states that members of the Royal Family cannot marry Roman Catholics.
Brown believes the law is outdated and it is expected that he will raise the issue when he attends the Commonwealth Heads of Government this coming weekend.
