It was announced today that two cousins who were passengers in their Uncle’s hire car in Cyprus, which caused a fatality, are to be extradited from the UK.

Luke Atkinson and Michael Binnington were in the back of the car when it hit and killed a teenager back in 2006. Only now has the Court decided that the pair should be flown back to Cyprus where they will each begin a jail term for manslaughter.

The pair, from Essex, lost their High Court bid to avoid extradition to the island. The case has been ongoing for 3 years and the driver of the car, Julian Harrington, is currently already serving a 15-year jail sentence.

What is interesting though is that the cousins were actually acquitted back in February 2007, but that verdict was overturned by the higher court in 2008. Some are astonished to learn that the cousins will now face jail after once being regarded as completely innocent.
